When Jay Johnson Castro heard the government's plans to build 3 sections of double-layer fence along Texas' border with Mexico, he thought of a spontaneous protest: walking the same 200+ miles from Laredo to Brownsville that the fence would close off. Over 15 days he would walk up hills and down, through burning sun and driving rain, and finally with a full police escort into Brownsville with the city's mayor by his side. His protest may not have drawn large crowds, but it brings the controversial fence into the forefront of discussion.
